First Video – Flight of a lone Eagle

Most people have a thing for animals….. usually identifying themselves with one of the “beautiful people”. Some love dolphins, jaguars [not the car!!!], snakes and so on.

I would be one of them and have always been fascinated with birds of prey, specifically eagles and falcons. There is something about the pristine way these beauties take to the air, gliding gracefully in an unending ballet of beauty.

So one very gloomy rainy day, it had just rained heavily and the sky was one sheet of gray, unbroken cloud. Not a single bird in the sky. And then all of a sudden, there was this lone eagle in the sky, doing his immaculate dance on a lonely stage.

Circle upon circle of grace, climbing higher and higher and finally disolving into a window of sun in the sheet of cloud….. and there I had my first video for this blog.

Skyscapes – Part Deux

There are certain perks of flying on an evening flight. Other than the supreme magnanimity of forgiving the airline for its inevitable delay, the views outside your window are breathtaking. Flying through thick rainclouds at 30000 ft. and playing hide and seek with the sun, is very simply put, an awe inspiring event.

Also compound that with the fact that a wannabe model sits next to you and insists on doing her claws for one and three quarters of an hour. No, I do not have a pic of her. Compared to the beauties you’ll see below, she was, in a way, inconsequential………..

Presenting, the sea of clouds:

For a wee moment, when I looked out at this scene, it did not strike me that I was at 30k feet above ground. This looked more like skimming the ocean in an amphibious aircraft……..

And finally, the grand masterpiece!!! I like to call this “sunset among the clouds”!!! I’m still in the air, my friends!!!!

It was a humbling experience. Despite the fact that I was defying gravity and essentially doing something that nature did not intend me to do [I mean flying, you perverts]…….. it brought about the revelation that I was so small compared to the universe….. or more exactly, the great blue sky!!!!

Look up to the sky…

The weather in Bangalore allows for a lot of fun. First of all, it is crazily unpredictable. You can essentially have a lottery service asking subscribers to actually bet on the condition every morning. I have had days which started of sunny, and I mean with a clear blue sky….. and then it got a bit cloudy and by the evening, it was drizzling. Next morning I find the roads are all slushy… Its so funny that the weather bureau has already given up on it!!! Going by their standard prediction “Clear skies today. Sporadic showers expected”

But on the other hand, this kind of variance gives one the chance to view some of the best “skyscapes” you could ever find anywhere. And with my trusty ol’ E61, I have absolutely no excuse as lame as “I wish I had a camera right now”!!!

So here are some classic skyscape masterpieces:

This was on a lazy Saturday morning (that’s because Saturdays are an off for me). This sky later brought down the biggest downpour I’ve ever seen in March anywhere!!!!

That’s the same scene when the storm approacheth!!!

I had just gotten off the bus, said thanks to the driver and looked up!!! And there was my religious experience!!!

The foggiest day in Mumbai

20th September 2007

Somehow, we Mumbaikars never figure out what a Delhite goes through on a winter morning. That’s majorly because we’ve never associated fog with Mumbai. Well we have this fine mist that we get sometimes, but fog?? I guess almost never.

And then a day like that Thursday dawns….. and I swear I’ve not experienced fog like this anywhere in my entire lifetime, all 30 years of it !!!!! This is not Delhi, not Nainital, not Ooty….. This is Bhandup, Mumbai !!!!

The building that is faintly visible in the photo above is about 20m away. Believe it!!!!

And if you’re trying to figure out the photo above, maybe this one below will help the visualization, the same scene when the fog lifted at about 8 am!!

First the biggest downpour ever two years back, then the thickest fog this year!!! I guess I would soon be singing …. I’m dreaming of a White Christmas…. :)

Maximum City to Malgudi…

8th September 2007

Sometimes its just wonderful to sit at the window and watch the world get up and get going. So when the scene from your window belies the speed and hustlebustle of Mumbai and essentially when for a brief while, Mumbai gets transformed into this sleepy town landscape, its worth capturing that moment.

One early morning, I happened to have that same feeling about Maximum City. In the twilight zone, I just saw Malgudi outside my window…………….

Nostalgia…. revisited!!!

I had a few pictures in my cellphone from the time I was in Mumbai. So I might as well put them up here. I’ll try to get the dates right, though the memories will be accurate.

Starting with a Room with a View…. the scene from outside my window in Mumbai……. on a dull rainy day.

An evening sky in Bangalore

So there I was sitting in my melancholy state, when I see this amazing evening sky from my window.

Bangalore has a lot of things to see… And I’m gonna see them one by one.
Frankly I need some good friends to do a lot of sightseeing and other activities soon. And next time I’ll ensure that there is a bigger pixel size on the camera.

Perspectives – Statement of purpose

I thought I’d start the blog with a description of its purpose. I’ve always wondered whether sometimes the things we see or think at a moment, usually a reaction to the outside world as perceived by our senses, would ever repeat again. I’m sure there are things that are part of your routine, like the Safety notice on your elevator or the neighbour’s dog barking at you as you pass his gate on your way to work.

Then there are things that are for the moment, like dew on a leaf or a spider spinning its web, and you wanna capture that!!! I snap the most idiotic things, but then I’d love to share my general curiosity. So this blog is the platform for that!!! Just sharing………….
